Crime on the Fens: DI Nikki Galena, Book 1 Review Ò eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF DI Nikki Galena A police detective with nothing left to lose she's seen a girl die in her arms and her daughter will never leave the hospital again She's gotten tough on the criminals she believes did this to her Too toug. I m not sure why one reviewer felt there was poor proofreading unless the British English and slang was mistaken for grammar and spelling errors My copy was fine and a dictionary is provided in the back to help with unfamiliar words and termsThe plotting was excellent and the characters were fully developed This writer provides a story as well written as the Vera Stanhope mystery series I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series

I read mostly European mysteries and this one was only mediocre It does have a decent plot but the writing is not so great and the dialogue at times is very cliched So are the two main characters The brisk argumentative young female detective who has never disclosed that she has a daughter in a persistent vegetative state really and the sexy handsome ex special ops detective who never sees his ex wife or daughter Why do authors feel as if cops have to be pained dysfunctional traumatized and secretiveIn summary it wasn t a bad book but I would recommend reading Ruth Rendell Peter Robinson Henning Mankell or Stephen Booth s earlier books Superior writing

Glad to have discovered the Fens series of books Really enjoyed this the first in the series The story introduces DI Galena and Sergeant Easter As with so many fictional detectives they are both troubled individuals damaged by their past Both back stories are interesting and the characters are well developed in the book Knowing the area of the fens the author has portrayed the area well The sometimes bleak beauty of the coast together with a town that has than its fair share of troubled young people due to socio economic reasonsI have already moved on to the second book in the series I think the series would be good for development to a TVs series Would be good to have a female detective who is not as hard as Tennyson or as eccentric as Vera but actually seems a normal female
